"Julie Fagan invites us to question the private spaces we inhabit. Provoked by issues surrounding ‘the home’, the [works] present poignant and sometimes jarring perceptions of how we live.

Private space adopts different guises: closed doors allude to issues of status, equality and hidden practices… interiors can be suffocating and stifling rather than places of escapism and loss of identity is suggested as individual interiors appear frighteningly similar.

As human being we are instinctively drawn to all things private and hidden… exposing our inherent voyeuristic desire. We are reminded that even in our private spaces, we are not alone. Sometimes banal… sometimes sinister… [the work] reveals contemporary human existences to be potentially darker than it seems."
